Consists of correspondence, documents, photographs, reference notes, newspaper and magazine articles, maps, microfilms, tapes, engravings, scrapbooks and books, relating to the cattle industry in Arizona and to the history of the Southwest and Mexico. Includes old brand documents, historical correspondence of the Arizona Cattle Growers' Association, and minutes (1871-1937) of the Arizona Livestock Sanitary Board Meetings. Has extensive biographical file, and photograph and negative collections of people, livestock shows, ranches and cattle.

In the early 20th century, a group of concerned cattlemen took it upon themselves to help structure the future of the cattle industry in the state of Arizona. Their primary focus was the drafting of orderly, systematic laws protecting livestock and property. Arizona writer, photographer and editor. Richard George Schaus was born in Wisconsin in 1910. Following service in the Air Force during World War II, Schaus took a photography course at Columbia University and then opened a photo shop in Phoenix, Arizona. He was hired by Abbie Keith to take photographs for the Arizona Cattlelog, the monthly magazine of the Arizona Cattle Growers' Association. He was soon writing articles as well.
